There are so many reasons to add mushrooms to your diet! With their earthy flavor and hearty texture, they add uniqueness to any dish. They can be eaten raw, sautéed in a stir-fry, roasted, grilled, marinated and as a pizza topping. On top of their great flavor they are packed with nutrients such as vitamin B, selenium, and potassium. Mushrooms are also one of the only foods with naturally occurring vitamin D, which many of us don’t get quite enough of.
Although typically classified as a vegetable, mushrooms are actually a type of fungi. Certain types of wild mushrooms are poisonous if eaten so be careful to only eat those that are grown commercially and sold in a grocery store or restaurant.
